Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has teamed up with Bullet For My Valentine and the BBC to gatecrash an interview by movie star Margot Robbie. In footage first posted five years ago, both Taylor and Bullet For My Valentine made surprise appearances during the former Neighbours actor turned Hollywood superstar's appearance on BBC Radio 1's Heart Rate Monitor segment.
Hosted by Nick Grimshaw, the segment monitored Robbie's heartbeat as the Barbie movie lead was shown pictures and footage of the people and things she loves most. A noted metal fan, who has defended the genre against criticism multiple times, Robbie was clearly quite happy to discuss her metal fandom with Grimshaw when asked about it, stating "I mean, when I was young I was really into Metallica, I went to a Slipknot concert when I was younger, that was one of the best ones, but I was into, like, Thrice, Bullet For My Valentine..." before she could fully elaborate, Bullet For My Valentine appeared live on camera from a show in Canada, where they dedicated the song Tears Don't Fall to a speechless and visibly excited Robbie. With Robbie's heart rate increased, Grimshaw went and dropped an even bigger surprise on Robbie, when none other than Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor appeared on-screen with a personal invitation for Robbie to attend a future Slipknot show.
Taylor's message stated "Hi Margot, it's Corey from Slipknot," says Taylor". "Heard you were a massive fan, heard you came to see Slipknot a long time ago, and I just wanted to thank you, to say how chuffed I am about your success, it's really, really massive. "If you ever want to come to another Slipknot show, just let us know!". Taylor's apperance absolutely tipped Robbie over the edge into a near delirious state of joy, confirming her fandom is as genuine as it seemed. You can watch Heart Rate Monitor segment below.
In an interview with Maniacs in 2018, Bullet For My Valentine's Michael Paget stated "Yeah it was really funny how I found out actually. I think she was on Conan or one of those American shows and she mentioned that when she was younger she used to listen to emo bands, and when she said our band name it was like whoa, that's really strange! But then the BBC Radio 1 guys asked us if we would dedicate the song and we were like yeah of course! So we dedicated the song to her, they strapped her to the heart rate monitor and showed her the footage and it's a funny reaction! It was a good laugh. But at the end of the day, she is just a person like the rest" of us.
